Is Bible Relevant?

To be relevant, the Bible would have to address today’s issues. Does it do that?

You only have to read the first 27 verses of the book to see that gender was divinely designed and separated into only two sexes, male and female, both in the image of Almighty God. Oddly enough, that is a big issue today in the minds of some.

So by the above truth, the Bible also addresses what constitutes marriage, teaching that only a man and a woman are made to be husband and wife (Genesis 2:7-24). And if ancient practices muddied the waters, Jesus clearly reaffirmed this original plan in Matthew 19:3-9, which passage also addresses divorce. More relevance for current confusion.

We hear talk of “reproductive rights”. A strange turn of phrase; indeed, yet “Be fruitful & multiply” has never been rescinded (yes, back to Genesis 1:28), and Psalm 139:13-16 makes it abundantly clear that God knew us as individuals even while we were forming in our mother’s wombs, and Psalm 127 says children are a gift from God. Wow! Kinda makes it hard to misunderstand the application for today, huh?

Racism? God nipped that in the bud as soon as he taught us that all of humanity came from the first two people he created in his image (Genesis 1:26-27), and then our singular race got a restart from a single family after the flood (Genesis 6-9). Wouldn’t that make us all one family still? Seems relevant to me.

As Jesus said, that all relevant issues of life are covered in God’s two greatest commandments; #1 to love him with all of our heart, soul, mind and body….. and #2 to love each other as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:36-40). How many of life’s troubles would fade away if we only applied these two teachings to how we live today!

For sure, no other book or collection of books even comes close to being as relevant as the Bible is right now in every area of life.

And if you don’t quite understand this at the moment, rest assured you will as soon as you meet the author.
