Congregational Survey Update
Harold Weaver | March 25th, 2008

In the congregational survey, one of the areas frequently mentioned was an improvement in our parking. Much of the concrete at the west of the building has cracked over time and has become a bit of a tripping hazard because of uneven surfaces. I am aware of two incidents in which two of our members have caught the toe of their shoe and have fallen down on the concrete. This needs correction.

Other suggestions were that it would be very helpful if the parking spaces were wider and the driving lanes in between the parking spaces should also be wider as they are too narrow.

With these and some other suggestions in mind, we asked Ron Hanks and Clee Turbyfill to make a complete review of our parking. They will provide recommended actions that can be taken to improve our overall parking.

They have done an excellent job in this task. There is a drawing in the foyer that defines what has been proposed. The changes are marked in RED. The drawing shows paving the:

  • Northeast parking area (now graveled)
  • Southeast adding some parking (to permit two directions of traffic at the south entrance)
  • New expanded parking to the west of the existing parking
  • Add curbing on the north and northeast parking area

Cost estimates for these improvements are:

Concrete: removal of the broken areas west of the building and replacement, plus added parking - $300,000 to $322,000

Asphalt: pave graveled areas, add two new lanes west of the existing parking. Patch existing lot and overlay with asphalt - $110,500 to $125,000
The asphalt option is most affordable.

How would we fund this? Unless we find a gold mine, we would obtain the funding from a bank loan. Allen Arnold has been and continues to be our very competent financial planner to help us in our needs.
