One Of Our Great Challenges - Every Church Family Member Growing In Knowledge of The Scriptures
Harold Weaver | April 22nd, 2008

Your shepherds in this church have a tremendous responsibility in trying to provide you a continuous opportunity to learn the scriptures (Matt. 28:19,20). That learning opportunity includes equipping each one through Bible study so that we can all be built up together in the work of service to the Lord and each other (Eph. 4:11,12).

At least three methods of learning are very important to every family.

1. We are all encouraged to read and study the scriptures at home with the family. I
believe this ought to be a regular practice that will pay huge rewards.
2. Hearing the Word of God proclaimed each Lord’s day when the church assembles
together is also an enormous opportunity to learn the scriptures that must not
be neglected (Heb. 10:25).
3. Bible classes are also another essential method of Bible study. Bible classes are
arranged for all ages so that everyone can learn at the level best suited for them.

We greatly desire that every individual in our church family grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (II Pet. 3:18). One of the suggestions that came from our church family survey of last December was that of having Sunday morning worship services at 9:30 and having the Bible classes after the worship; maybe starting by 10:45 or 11:00. Such a change has been well received at two congregations with whom I am familiar and has brought about a substantial increase in Bible class attendance.

If our objective is to encourage as many as possible to attend Bible classes (and it is, of course) then having the Sunday morning Bible classes after the worship service surely ought to be considered. Probably the way to evaluate that change would be to give it a trial period; maybe for 3 months, then evaluate the results.

Your shepherds would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this suggestion. I personally believe we should give it a try.
