A Most Reliable Basis For Being Thankful

In this season of the year, we look forward to the Thanksgiving holiday. It is a time to remember the reasons we have for being thankful. Among other things for which we should be thankful would include our family, friends, the food and the freedom we have in this great nation. Yet another and most important is remembering all the benefits provided to us by Jehovah God. A great source of joy and thanksgiving surely comes from being a child of God; a Christian. Paul’s letter to the Colossians provides some instructions that will build our lives to appreciate thankfulness.

Colossians 3:12-15 states: “And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful.”

These scriptures provide such a profound method for viewing each day. When we focus with a positive attitude rather than dwelling on negative things in life, a feeling of gratitude is the result. In good times or even difficult times; our relationship with our Lord does not change when we live in faith. Our benefits are enormous. We can be thankful for the rain in our lives as well as the sunshine knowing both are necessary for spiritual growth. As Christians, our thanksgiving is a daily process rather than a seasonal holiday. May our Lord bless and keep us all.
