There is a time when we must firmly choose the course we will follow, or the deceptive drift
of events will make the decision for us. A delayed decision before God is dangerous, and it may
launch us into eternal disaster!
I recently read of Archias, the magistrate of Thebes, who was sitting with many mighty men,
drinking wine. “A messenger came in bringing him a letter, informing him of a conspiracy
against his life and warning him to flee. Archias took the letter, but instead of opening it, put it
into his pocket, and said to the messenger who brought it: ‘Business tomorrow.” The next day
he died.. Before he opened the letter the government was captured. When he read the letter it
was too late!” *
God’s word is a message about life –Your Life; My Life! The psalmist warns us—and the
Hebrew writer reminds us- “Today, if you would hear His voice, do not harden your
hearts” (Psa. 95:7; Heb .3:7). Whether by Reading or Human Proclamation, if God’s Word is
conveyed to you as a personal responsibility, calling for a personal response, do not pocket it as
“business tomorrow!” Jesus labeled as a Fool a man who assumed he had things laid out and
laid up for many years, only to face the sobering fact, “This night your soul is required of
you” (Lk. 12:20). Solomon wisely warned,” Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not
know what a day may bring forth” (Prov. 27:10). In Isaiah 49:8, the prophet informs us that
the Lord said, “In a favorable time I have answered you, and in a day of salvation I have helped
you.” When the apostle Paul gave those words, he added, “Behold, now is the acceptable time:
behold, now is ‘the day of salvation!’ (11 Cor. 6:2,3) Two “Behold’s and two “Now’s”—and
the clearly stated subject is our salvation! Are you listening??
How will you relate to God's message for your Today??
