I am mostly certain everyone is familiar with the Secret Service of the United States. It was created to primarily protect and serve our national leaders and their families in our great country. The Secret Service, working mostly behind the scenes, conducts its daily process with few acknowledgements. Yet the daily government business would be hard pressed to continue without secret service participation and intervention.
The Church has a secret service as well. It consists of members who dedicate themselves to serving Christ and His body unseen and seldom recognized, for the most part. They work without accolades and public acknowledgement - they "just do what needs to be done". Our secretaries, custodians, baptistery maintenance, yard work, planting and watering the "islands" of our building, taking communion to the sick and shut ins, managing our food pantry, financial and spiritual support to name a few... and the list goes on and on.
To those who are performing any active secret services, in whatever capacity for our congregation, please accept the kudos and gratitude from those you silently complete. May God continually bless and strengthen you in your tasks. As for the rest of us, perhaps it is time we also join up and share the rewards.
Matt 6:1-4..." Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly."
