Recently one of our members, Harold Jones, retired from his responsibilities as deacon. The announcement for this was contained in a very small box with very few words in our bulletin and could have easily gone unnoticed.
This humble and simple notice of retirement was very much the hallmark of Harold’s service to the church. He is a man of few words, but many actions. This virtue was brought home to me every time I called him to render a service to the church.
From checking and repairing our heat and air supply to changing the sign each week, there was no job too inconvenient or small for Harold to do. His many years as a successful contractor provided him with knowledge and ability he used to serve the Lord’s church.
In addition to this, Harold was and continues to be a wonderful example of faithful attendance and participation at every worship service. He and his wife, Geneva, are always here, on time and cheerful even though sister Jones has had a long history of health problems.
As a minister and brother in the Lord, I salute you, Harold, and thank you on behalf of a grateful congregation for your good work, Christ-like attitude and perseverance all of these years. Your resignation notice was small but your contribution to the Choctaw congregation will always be seen and appreciated.
