Re-Set Sunday

It would be nice to speak of the autumn chill in the air and wonderful fall season coming upon us but who would I be kidding? This is Oklahoma - it’s 104o in September! There is very little color change here, except for the scorch burns on your lawn.

Even though it doesn’t look or feel like it, summer is almost over. One sure sign is that school is in session and the pace of activities at work has speeded up. We’re heading for Fall break, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas rush whether we like it or not.

As we begin this hectic time, I want you to remember what’s important, what stays true one season after another. Your relationship with Christ and your Christian family remain the base from which you can deal with every other event no matter how great the strains or demands of your life.

This coming Sunday is “Re-Set Sunday”. A regular Lord’s day by any account, but one where we call on all of our brothers and sisters to push aside the cares, demands, and activities of this world in order to be present for Bible study and worship.

Let us approach this Sunday as a kind of “systems check” - to see if everything is working well. We always say concerning our attendance, “When everyone is here, we’re about 500 souls”. Well let’s see if we can put aside whatever impedes us and gather the entire church for a morning of study and worship 500 strong!

We have much to do this fall in every area of ministry. A successful Re-Set in returning to faithful attendance will not only bolster our ability to do the work of the kingdom, it might also provide an opportunity for many to re-set the focus of their love on the One who saved them in the first place.
