By Their Fruits You shall Know...(Matthew 7:20)

The Devil’s deception strikes again. A recent report traces the progressive (?) pattern of marijuana use in Colorado (cf. The Oklahoman, “Legalized Marijuana Certainly No Panacea,” September 27, 2015, p.14A). “In 2006 Colorado legalized ‘medical’ marijuana use. Greater commercialization was unleashed in 2009. And since 2013, full-blown recreational use has been legal.” This not only shows the Satanic pattern of deepening devilish deeds as time goes by, but facts and fruits of such folly surface the shame and sickness of such sordid sin!

Jesus warned about false teachers and bad fruits, stating that by their fruits we could detect and discern the Devil’s subtle and sinful deeds. Note the painful price paid by marijuana use. “In 2014, the report notes, there was a 32 percent increase in marijuana-related traffic deaths in Colorado compared to 2013. Marijuana related traffic deaths increased 92 percent from 2010 to 2014.” Even more sobering is the fact “all traffic deaths during that time period was just 8 percent. Had it not been for marijuana-related traffic deaths, the state would have experienced a decline in traffic fatalities.”

Note more fruits of this sad story. In 2014, when retail marijuana was begun, “there was a 38 percent increase in the number of marijuana hospitalizations in Colorado. Since 2010, marijuana-related hospitalizations have increased 99 percent.”

Young People, here’s one for you. “In public schools, drug-related suspensions/expulsions increased 40 percent in Colorado between 2008-09 school year and the 2013-14 school year, with the vast majority being marijuana violations.”

So, Young People (and adults), if you want to stifle your chance for an education, want to increase your chances of suffering in a hospital, or dying in a car wreck, dabble in drugs, play with marijuana, suck on sin, whose fruits are just like short steps of suicide!!

Incidentally, feasting on God’s Word (like milk or solid food) will enable you to “discern between good and evil” (Hebrews 5:12-14). See You in Bible Class!!
