"The Winner"
As I write this article, the nation has gone lottery crazy. One point five billion (with a 'B") dollars is the amount to be paid for picking the correct Powerball numbers. For just $2 you, and your government, would receive an astronomical amount of money..."easy street" from now on. And the fact that you have a little less than one in 292 million chances of winning doesn't seem to deter the enthusiasm or sales of tickets.
It begs to be pointed out that winning might not be so great. It will bring more problems than being broke. You don't have relatives, friends, strangers, and thieves trying to grab a share of your wealth. You don't have to worry about someone "kidnapping" you or members of your family. There is no reason to move or hide from society to gain some privacy. You think Hollywood stars have a problem with the Paparazzi, try winning a billion dollars. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to recognize these and many more worries that all that wealth would bring.
Most of us have more than enough to eat and drink, shelter and clothing, and even though it may not be on the level of Bill Gates, God has truly blessed us. But we need to be reminded...
Matt 6:31-33
31"Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' 32For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (NASU)
Besides, we have a much greater, longer lasting, non-troubling treasure and reward in Christ Jesus. That's the real winner!
