A few years ago this was the slogan of the phone company. The idea of course was to use the telephone to call someone far away so they could collect a little more money from your account. They no longer use that slogan (perhaps they figured out a better way to collect more money thru "fees"). But the original idea, touching someone through contact was a good one. I believe it should be one of the encouraging slogans we should use as Christians.
Reach out - to give aid or comfort to someone. Many people, most people, are in need of sincere attention. We don't need to know any details, only that something doesn't seem right. We should go to them, reach out and let them know we care. They need to know that we are there for them, you are there for them, no strings attached... especially to those in our Christian family.
Touch someone - Hugs are good, so are handshakes, a pat on the shoulder, even a tear or two. Encouragement is almost always a powerful treatment to someone being burdened. It can help them through whatever they are struggling with. It may not contain the answer, but it might help lift the load. Answers are not always readily available, but comfort and assurance is readily available through God the Father and Jesus Christ our Savior... And our ability to reach out and touch someone.
2 Thess. 2:16-17... Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
