Psalm 1:6
“The Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” -
According to the psalmist, there are two paths in life we can take. The path we take is determined by our decisions. Here are five choices every person needs to make in order to walk the right path.
Listen To The Right People
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked”
If we want to be a righteous person, don’t take advice from unrighteous people. If somebody tells us what they would do instead of what God says, they aren’t the right person to listen to. Individuals who live or promote sin shouldn’t be the person we turn to for spiritual guidance.
Keep Good Company
“Blessed is the man who…nor stands in the way of sinners.”
Who we choose to surround ourselves with and where we choose to be has a direct impact on our lives. If our circle is filled with individuals living in sinful lifestyles, we shouldn’t be surprised if we join them. If we stand with sinners, we’ll fall with them too. It’s important we choose company that is indicative of the path we want to walk.
Make the Right Kind of Friends
Blessed is the man who…nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
The saying goes, “show me who your friends are, and I’ll show you who you are.” Be careful who we choose to be close with in this life, because they will pull us towards one of these two paths. This is true for all of us, but especially important for our young adults, teenagers, and children.
Find Joy In What God Approves
“but his delight is in the law of the Lord.”
All sin in some way goes back to seeking our own satisfaction. However only in Christ can we find eternal satisfaction. Find joy in what God says and pursue His approval over all else. If we seek what God desires, we surely will be blessed.
Spend Time In God’s Word
“and on his law he meditates day and night.”
There is no better way to make sure we are walking the right path than to be consistently in the word of God. If we will seek His direction by studying His word and keeping it on our hearts, we will make righteous decisions. Let’s make sure God’s word is a priority in our life.
Where we will be in eternity will be decided by our choices. Let’s make these 5 choices that will keep us on the right path.
