One of my most favorite hymns is one we have been singing recently, entitled: “Day by Day”. It’s one I learned growing up, it’s one I’ve sang to each one of my children when I would rock them to sleep, and now it’s one we sing as a family most nights before bedtime. I’ve always been “in love” with the wonderful, simple melody, the arrangement, and especially, the lyrics. It is a short, simple song, but the message it carries is very powerful.
“Day by day, you reveal your love to me. Cradled in your arms I am a precious lamb; a diamond in your eyes.”
This song is more than just praise to the Lord, it is a declaration that the writer and passionate singers know where their hope and faith are found. It is a reminder that those who have put their trust in the Lord have nothing to fear in this life. It is a reminder that those who have put Christ on in baptism have the assurance of redemption and salvation. It is a submission to God as He knows what is best, so those who have given their lives to Him are infants in a father’s arms. It is a promise that the Lord will provide, protect, nurture, and lift up spiritually those who lean and depend on Him, literally.
David says it best when he writes and repeats in his 62nd Psalm, “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.”
As we spend our time together as God’s Kingdom on earth, this week, go into the community as the same, may we remember our faith. May our faith be an encouragement to us that leads us to our ‘highs’ and be solace to us in our ‘lows.’ Let your faith be the assurance and reassurance that God is just and faithful to His people and let Him guide you through the week and into an ever encouraging attitude ‘day by day.’
