As we in America go into the holiday week surrounded by the “need” to purchase gifts for others, we can sometimes be overwhelmed by the things we consider to be precious. We Christians know that the precious things are immaterial, but as a reminder, here are six of the most precious things ever given to mankind:
God’s Loving Kindness- “How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Psalm 36:7
Christ - “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:20
Christ’s Sacrifice - “And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:10
Salvation - “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13
The Church - “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” Acts 20:28
God’s Promises - “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9
This is not an exhaustive list of all the precious things, but hopefully this list keeps our perspectives on the right path. We as Christians are so very blessed and it’s not because of how the Lord has blessed us in our jobs or material things, but because He was compassionate enough to send His son on our
behalf so that we who answer the call will receive the free gift of salvation.
