Praise You in this Storm
“At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: "Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.” Job 1:20-22

In Job 1, a man named Job has everything taken from him in a flash. Job has been blessed greatly by God, and he is described as a righteous man. Satan convinces God to let him test Job. Job had been very wealthy, and was blessed with many children, but everything he has is taken from him in a second.

This is probably the worst thing any of us can imagine happening to us. Imagine losing everything you’ve worked for, and everyone you love, in an instant, at no fault of your own. This would make many people denounce God, and turn away from living a righteous life. After hearing the news, Job is understandably overcome with emotion. He is deep in mourning, and yet he still falls on His face and worships the Lord.

Job shows remarkable faith in doing this. Where many people would curse God, blame Him, or abandon their faith, Job worships in His worst moments. This story leads me to examine my own faith. Can I honestly say that after suffering such a tragedy I would worship God immediately after? Is my faith in Him strong enough? I am reminded of the lyrics in the song “Praise you in this storm”. Remember these lyrics, and Job’s faith as you go about your week, and strive to praise God in the storm.

“And I will praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm”
