Paul, the Team Player

In the 2012-2013 NBA season, the league had decided to start a new award to someone that “exemplifies ‘selfless play and commitment and dedication to his team.’”

This award consists of guys who may not be the best player on the court, but they helped boost the team morale, spend time invested in their teammates, and was a role model off the court.

I can’t help but think of someone like Paul in the book of Acts. Paul, who had turned his life completely around for the sake of Christ, was known to be an encourager, and a strengthener.

During his missionary journeys, Luke writes at least once in each chapter of 14-16 that Paul was “strengthening the churches” that he visited (15:41).

Paul was so bold in his faith, that these churches were not only satisfied with Paul’s encouraging words, but that they were making disciples daily in chapter 16:5.

He was making those around him better people, because he had recognized his calling!

When we really dedicate ourselves like Paul to the work God gives us, who knows the amount of people that God can strengthen in our communities!

So let’s start dedicating our lives towards the team, the Church!
