As a newly wed (finally) I can now start writing articles about my marriage! Now I’m no marriage expert by any means, but if there’s one thing I’ve come to understand about my wife, it’s that family comes first, no matter what happens.
Last year, while my wife and I were dating, her grandma had fell and had a heart attack at her home in Texas. As soon as that happened, each and everyone of the family members dropped everything that they were doing and headed to the hospital where she was put in ICU! Cousins, aunts, uncles, grandkids, great-grandkids, in-laws, they were all there to support her grandmother as she was going through her physical suffering. She ultimately survived, and couldn’t have been more thankful for her family then in that moment right there.
When I think about Emma’s family, I can’t help but think of David’s “mighty men” in 2 Samuel 23. Men who would stop at nothing to protect and comfort their king in battle. There were 37 men in total that were considered “mighty” because they knew with David’s trust in God, they would be in good hands, even during dangerous times! Emma’s family does the same: they have put their faith in Jesus Christ, so they put down their conveniences, jobs, time off, to be with the people they love most; because they know everyone else in the White family would do the same for them. Would you do the same for someone that special in your life? Would you lay down your life for the sake of someone else, rather than when it’s convenient for you? I hope and pray that you will think about those special people in your life as we enter worship today.
