I found out the secret of losing weight fast! Before I tell you my secret though, I have to tell you how I discovered it.
Linda and I had just returned from visiting her relatives, but while I was there, everyone kept commenting on the weight I had lost since they had last seen me. I basked in the “loser’s glow” limelight for a while; actually beginning to believe I looked “smaller”. In fact, I enjoyed the mistaken belief until on the way home. That’s when it dawned on me – I might have lost one or two pounds, (not enough to notice), but the secret was BIGGER CLOTHES! Before we left on the trip I bought some new shirts that were the next bigger size than what I had been buying…and everyone thought I was getting skinnier. Pretty slick huh? Except once I realized I, and the rest of Linda’s family, had bought into a false idea, I felt tricked and deceitful. I didn’t do it on purpose, but the sound of all those compliments “tickled my ears”. It was what I wanted to hear and believe, so it was easy to get me to buy into the false concept I was losing weight— not buying bigger clothes. I really did not want to realize that part. The truth was not what I wanted to hear or to face.
It reminds me of how Satan works in our lives. He tells us what he knows we want to hear. He makes it seem ok to do things we know are not right. He tickles our “itching ears” (2 Tim 4:3- 4… For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.)
My weight loss was not as it appeared. Many things in our lives today are not as they appear. How sin “dresses” can make a difference in our trying to do the right thing. So we must be on guard against Satan in his disguises, however they might appear. Matt 7:15-16… "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. God’s word will give us clear vision. So put to use his vision, the scriptures, and don’t be fooled into seeing what really isn’t there. Mark 4:21-23… Also He said to them, "Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand? For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."
Luke 12:23… Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.
