The psalmist has said “My sins have gone over my head and my sins are too heavy to carry.” When we have sin in our lives, we need to know how to get rid of it. Who can best help than the elders, ministers or faithful Christians.
The Bible tell us how to over come sin. It takes us from Victim to Victor.
· I John 4:4 The reason we can overcome is because He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world.
· 2 Cor. 2:14 When we allow Christ to lead us, He always leads us in triumph or victory.
· 1 John 5:4 Whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory we have, even our faith.
· 1 Cor. 15:54 When the perishable has put on that which is imperishable, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in Victory.”
We must all realize that we have a past we must deal with. Note the woman in John 8 who was caught in adultery. Romans 3:23 states we all have sinned. Luke 13:3 says unless we repent of our sins, we will perish. In II Peter 2:22 Peter states that there are people who know the truth and have returned to sin. It is worse for them now. Ezekiel 18:4 tells us the soul that sins will die. Gen 4:7 says if you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not well, sin is crouching at the door; and it’s desire is for you, but you must master it.
It’s a good thing to know that we as Christians can take care of sin in our lives. How? By acknowledging sin. (Romans 3:23). Confessing sin publically and asking for the prayers and strength of the church (James 5:19-20). Our private sins we can ask God to forgive in private.
For non-Christians, you must first hear the gospel & know that God is ready to forgive you of sin. Believe that Christ is the Son of God (Heb. 11:6). Confess Christ as the Son of God (Romans 10:10). Repent of sin (Acts 2:37-38). Be baptized for remission of sin (Mark 16:16). You too can be victorious over sin in your life and not remain a victim, doomed to death for un-repented sin. 1 John 2:1 says “My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” We find in 1 John 1:7&9 “If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This is a good thing. Call upon the elders if we can help you in any way.
