Jesus expects wholehearted obedience from His followers.
Hebrews 5:9 And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him
the source of eternal salvation,
Jesus expects us to deny ourselves in following Him.
Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, If anyone wishes to come after Me, he
must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
Jesus expects us to grow in knowledge.
2 Peter 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ.
Jesus expects the investment of our life in His service.
Ephesians 4:15-16 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects
into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16from whom the whole body, being fitted
and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of
each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in
love.
Jesus expects us to repent of our sins.
Acts 8:22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if
possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you.
Jesus expects us to confess our sins.
1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth
is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Jesus expects us to act upon the knowledge we have.
Ephesians 4:11-12 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some
as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for
the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
He expects us to live for Him.
Titus 2:12 instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly,
righteously and godly in the present age.
Jesus has high expectations of us who choose to follow Him for a short time of this
life and yet His promises of eternal life for us are overwhelmingly beyond all we can
anticipate. Seems like a tremendous opportunity to me!
