I'm not a sports junkie, but being from West Virginia it does my heart good to see the Mountaineers having a good year in football. The game they played against Baylor on September 29th, 2012 is now an important part of their history. It was not just a good game for West Virginia, however. Yes, they won it 70-63 (whew!), but starting quarterbacks for both teams broke school records for passing yards gained in a game, and Geno Smith, the WVU quarterback completed 45 of 51 passes for a gain of 656 yards.
Nick Florence, Baylor's quarterback, threw mostly to teammate Terrence Williams who also broke a record gaining 314 yards. What is interesting is that the record Williams broke had just been set earlier in this same game by Stedman Bailey who was Smith's favorite target for his passes.
What talent! What ability! What athleticism! These are some of college football's elite. Most of us could never have what it would take to join them on the playing field.
On the other hand, there is something infinitely more important that you can almost certainly do with the abilities you do have. I would say that within a month or less you could become an authority on nearly any book of the Bible!
That's right! You may never throw a touchdown pass or outrun a collegiate defensive team to the end zone, but with a very reasonable amount of time and effort you could become an expert in a significant portion of God’s word that will bless you eternally.
Even you and I have what it takes to be "starters". Start today. Choose one of the 66 books of law, prophecy, poetry, history, gospel or one of the letters of the New Testament and dig in.
