Be Fruitful and Multiply

We see the above phrase first in Genesis 1:28 when God gives this simple, but  necessary instruction to Adam and Eve adding, “fill the earth”. We see it again in Genesis 9:1 & 7 after the flood when God tells Noah and his family to do the same.

This was, and I believe remains, God’s plan for humanity (especially His people) given long before He gave Israel the law through Moses. In fact, children born to Christians are today potentially the greatest hope for the future.

I hear a lot of talk among young couples these days of limiting the number of  children they plan to have based on money. Enter, Marty the meddler.

For those whose concern in financial, please consider that God gives us the ability and the commands to procreate, not simply to have children, but to raise up new generations of faithful citizens of both His kingdom and our own nations to bless the world. I believe that the offspring of the faithful really are the hope of future humanity.

Others consider the direction the world seems to be taking and do not want to bring children into these troubled times. Troubled times, however, are the very reason the faithful need to be raising up Godly seed.

Consider God’s view of children born to faithful Israel:

“Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a  reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:3-5

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine within your house, your children like olive plants around your table. Behold, for thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord….. Indeed, may you see your children’s children. Psalm 128:3-4 & 6

Please young couples; I encourage you to have children according to your faith, not according to your finances or your forebodings.
