Adventure

Sound exciting? But what if your adventure is something that you did not expect, or even want?

Joseph went on an adventure, didn’t he? Sold into slavery while just a teen he went through a series of what I would definitely call “life changing events” to eventually be made the second most powerful man in the world. Joseph said in the end “God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive”, Genesis 50:20.

I believe God still plans “adventures” if you will. Your next new faith-building opportunity may be just around the corner and intended to do you good.

What about the adventure of meeting people who are different in a way that is “new” to us? Have you ever met someone with Down syndrome? They are different, but in a wonderful way.

Have you found yourself in the presence of someone who has suffered the recent loss of a loved one? It can be scary if it is new ground for you. In being there, however, you may learn the benefits of letting your light shine in a manner you’ve not known before.

Can you show the love of Jesus to an autistic child? Their behavior may be different, but they are no less created in the image of God.

We can get into such a limited routine in our thinking that even meeting someone who has perhaps lost a limb can catch us off guard. Is that the reaction such a person would need or want? Doubtful. Who wants to be identified by their misfortunes?

Be ready for the unexpected. God has always put his people in situations that needed his influence because that influence will only come through a disciple such as yourself. The world is filled with people who may appear different from you or me. Each one has infinite value in the eyes of God and has something worthwhile to teach you. Be advised; you may be someone else’s next new experience.

Refuse to be intimidated by people the Lord loves. Prepare your mind for adventure.
