Should Oklahoma be Compelled to Allow a Statue to Satan to be Placed on its Capitol Grounds?

Likely by now you have heard the news about a temple of Satan in New York vying to place a statue of Satan on the grounds of the Oklahoma capitol building.

Consider the Preamble to the State Constitution of Oklahoma:

“Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to secure and perpetuate the blessing of liberty; to secure just and rightful government; to promote our mutual welfare and happiness, we, the people of the State of Oklahoma, do ordain and establish this Constitution.”

Government must be done according to some kind of moral code. The first six words of Oklahoma’s constitution firmly establish whose moral code was considered in the foundation of the state.

Ask yourself, ‘Who would be the greatest enemy to each of the intents expressed in the above preamble?”

“…to secure and perpetuate the blessing of liberty…”? – Satan is not about liberty, but bondage. As he bound a woman with health troubles for eighteen long years, so would he bind us all (Luke 13:10-17).

“…to secure just and rightful government…”? – The very first thing we read of Satan in scripture is to incite Eve to rebel against God and His just and rightful rule (Genesis 3:1-7).

“…to promote our mutual welfare and happiness…” ? – Is Satan in favor of our welfare and happiness, or is it more like what Jesus said about him regarding Peter, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat…”, (Luke 22:31).

The God-given purpose of government is to serve its citizens by establishing order and the rule of just law according to Romans 13:1-7. Satan’s purpose historically has been to bring chaos and anarchy challenging all such authority. Could the honoring of such intentions be anything less than treason against the state and its citizens and rebellion against God?

Why should the state be compelled to honor its greatest enemy?
