Helpful Rules For Fair Fighting (AKA; resolving disputes)

.Start by praying, remembering that Jesus said, “Blessed are the Peacemakers” and not “Blessed are the argument winners”. If you make it a contest, you’ve lost already.

.Respect each other. Never mock or demean the other person in any way.

.Turn down the volume. Exercise some self-control.

.Keep it private; never in public, never in front of the kids, never publicize it.

.Identify and address the issue, rather than attack each other.

.Resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

.Do not damage your credibility with exaggerations or dramatizations.

.Stay on the subject and address one issue at a time.

.Work as hard to understand the other person’s view as you do to make your view understood.

.Name calling and/or bad language only makes the situation worse.

.Always, always, always, always be honest; with yourself and the other person.

.Absolutely refuse to take anything personally even if attacked or slighted.

.Keep a sense of humor.

.Don’t keep score.

.Resolve issues as if God was watching you (since He is).
