It is a principle as old as creation, and which is stated ten separate times in the Biblical creation account (Genesis 1:11-12, 21 & 24-25). Everything reproduces after its kind.
Reproduction in kind is not limited to biology. Similarly, Isaac Newton observed that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. So consistent is this truth that he identified it as the third law of motion.
Around 1600 years before Newton made his observation, Jesus’ apostle Paul had written:
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary” Galatians 6:7-9
To use the apostle’s analogy, your life will come back to you according to the seeds you plant. Solomon’s Proverbs are replete with examples of this principle:
· “Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, but the hand of the diligent makes rich”, 10:4
· “Before honor, comes humility”, 15:33
· “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established”, 16:3
· “With the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied; he will be satisfied with the product of his lips”, 18:20
· “He who is generous will be blessed”, 22:9
· “He who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who cares for his master will be honored”, 27:18
Everything we do will have a like result. God guarantees us that we will reap according to what we have sown. Everyone will suffer difficulties and setbacks from time to time, but if your life is characterized by trouble, misfortune and failure, then it would be wise to check your habits. You may simply be reaping the crop you’ve planted.
Harvests don’t happen over-night. If you continually plant the good seeds of faithfulness, love, diligence, generosity, compassion and other such “staples”, however, be assured that God will not allow your crop to fail.
