What imagery does the above statement conjure? Thunderstorm? Tornado? Blizzard?
God told Noah, “Behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish”, Genesis 6:17.
As my mom used to say, “Now you just think about that!” God brought a storm that wiped out the world. Evidence for the flood’s destructive power is worldwide. Waterborne sediments cover every continent (even Antarctica) and are filled with the remains of all manner of animals, birds, fish, plants, trees, insects and people as well.
As a matter of fact, so much organic material was buried that we still have massive deposits of coal, crude oil & natural gas all over the earth.
Had you been with Noah, how focused would you have been on getting the ark ready?
Would you have fretted over the government? Government is important, and ordained of the Lord God himself according to Romans 13:1-7. But when facing a storm from God, interest in national government pales to insignificance.
What about money and retirement? Everyone should make reasonable plans for their future financially. In comparison with divine judgment, however, what would money matter?
Sports? Right. As fun as sports are, no one will care who made the most runs, killed the biggest deer or chose the right tee-ball team for their kids when facing eternity.
But that’s just it. Folks forget that eternity IS what we face every day. Life distracts us, and politics, $, sports and other interests fill our time and we neglect to prepare.
Jesus warned:
“But of that day and hour no one know, not even the angels of heaven, nor the
Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered they ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be”,
Matthew 24:37-39
The coming storm is judgment day. The church is the ark. Grab your pitch bucket, brother.
