How will the world know that you are a disciple of Jesus? They will know that you follow Jesus when they see your love for your brothers and sisters in Christ. I
believe this because Jesus said:
“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one
another” John’s gospel, 13:35
How will the world know that God has sent Jesus to save them? When they see you united with your brothers and sisters in Christ, they will know. I believe this because Jesus also said:
“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.” John’s gospel, 17:22-23
Jesus said that there were things we could do that would help the world to know two things. He taught us that our love for one another and our conscious, deliberate and obvious unity with one another would show the world our commitment to him and his complete legitimacy as God’s son. Love and Unity.
What am I doing that shows the world I love my brothers and sisters?
What am I doing that proves my unity with my brothers and sisters?
The most obvious opportunities to show the world something of our love and unity are when we assemble to worship and to work together. It has been said that our parking lot is a sermon to the community of our commitment to God. While
discipleship goes way beyond merely being together, we must admit there is truth in that statement.
Today, perhaps more than ever, the world needs to see Jesus in us. Because of this, I believe that you and I need to be finding opportunities to express our love and unity as much and as often as possible.
