Do you ever get frustrated with yourself because you believe your faith is small? If so, you are in good company.
Jesus repeatedly told the apostles that he would be killed and then raise from the dead on the third day. He preached this openly saying,
"Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up."
- John 2:19
Mark records at least nine times when Jesus told his disciples about his imminent death and resurrection... and these are just the times that are recorded.
But check it... who was at the grave awaiting Jesus' resurrection that Sunday morning?
No one.
Not the apostles. They even had to be convinced of his resurrection by those who saw him first.
Neither his closest friends were there such as Mary, Martha or Lazarus, nor the Godly women who ministered to him.
The honorable and courageous Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea boldly claimed his body and buried it with dignity but failed to return on the third day.
Not one of the many disciples who had followed him and heard him teach was there.
Those thousands who ate the bread and fish he miraculously provided failed to show.
No healed lepers, none of the blind who had been given sight, no lame made whole, no sick person who had been made well, no deaf soul who could now hear because of him, not one of those dispossessed of a demon was there. No one.
I am not criticizing any of these folks. It just helps me to see that even the folks who were actually with Jesus, and who heard him teach and saw the miracles he did still struggled with faith. So, if they struggled to believe, what of us?
You are probably reading this because you believe in Jesus. And, just like these folks you have a measure of faith. Just keep feeding it. It will grow.
