The Church, the Body of Christ

What shape is the body in here at Choctaw?

Folks train for years to specialize in caring for nearly every part of the human body. That’s because every part is important to the body’s health and efficiency. The Lord’s church is no different.

If your vision gets blurry, you see an optometrist to get some glasses. The dreaded visit to the dentist is necessary when a tooth is the problem. Dermatologists want to see your lesions if you got’em and if your skin or eyes look yellowish, then your liver may need some attention and a hepatologist may be who you are looking for. Everything needs to work as intended, and folks are standing by when they don’t.

Now if the church is a body, you are a part of it. But what part? Are you a leg, a hand, a nose? Are you in need of "medical attention"? Well, you get the idea. Whatever we are, we want to be healthy and functioning just as we are supposed to be.

Jesus’ apostle wrote: “For the body is not one part, but many. If the foot says, ‘Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,’ it is not for this reason any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, ‘Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,’ it is not for this reason any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? But now God has arranged the parts, each one of them in the body, just as He desired.” 1st Corinthians 12:14-18I really appreciate that last bit, that God has arranged us all just as he desired.

So what are you in the body, how do you fit & are you in good shape? I have learned that the more you are with the body, the better you understand your purpose in it and for it. I also believe that since God has arranged us as it pleases him, he will also lead us to our individual purposes. In fact, there is a good possibility that you are already doing what he has brought you to this point to do. This will help you to be healthy and the entire body as well.

If you don’t know yet what your place is, keep looking. You will find what you seek.
