In Romans 3, Jesus’ apostle Paul shows with devastating clarity the “fallenness” of man. A few excerpts are:
“None are righteous, not even one
There are none who understand
There are none who seek for God
Their throat is an open grave
There is no fear of God before their eyes”
You get the picture. In chapter 7 (14-19) he makes it personal. More excerpts…..
“…..but I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin…… I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate….. for the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want”
His introduces his conclusion with a question….. “Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?”
The conclusion? It’s Jesus….. “Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”
That’s the last verse of chapter 7, and so the first verse of chapter 8 reads…..
“There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”….. Amen!!!
Because of Jesus, chapter 8 verse 37 says, “…..we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us”
Through faith in Jesus, in spite of the fact that we are totally sinful, wretched creatures, we become overwhelming conquerors!
No wonder the apostle asks the question (8:31), “If God is for us, who is against us?”
