Kiss-Cams & the Truth

Social media presently abounds with references to a high-profile executive & his apparent girlfriend pictured embracing each other on a kiss-cam. This, while each of them were married to other people. Several observations can be made by anyone willing to pay attention.

Observation #1 – Like Moses warned the tribes of Reuben & Gad (and likely the ½ tribe of Manasseh): “Be sure your sins will find you out”, Numbers 32:23.

These tribes had made a sacred promise to the other tribes. Moses was warning them that if they failed to fulfill their promise, it would be sin, and that sin would come back to haunt them. An interesting parallel regarding failures of commitment don’t you think?

So yes, our sin will eventually find us.

Observation #2 – Society (that's people) still understands that husbands and wives are supposed to be faithful to one another and to fail in this faithfulness is a matter of public shame. I thank the Lord that this sentiment still permeates our culture to some degree, even if we often do a poor job of living it out.

Also, in spite of what we often hear, I am not aware of anyone defending their right to welch on their vows because they "deserve to be happy”. So yes, as a society we apparently still hold good character in high regard, even if we are somewhat hypocritical about it.

Yes, we still believe marriage worthy of being honored.

Observation #3 – It is easy to point the finger at others whose sin is exposed to the public eye. They are "easy pickens" or "low-hanging fruit" as we say. But the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to tell Timothy,

“The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment, for others their sins follow after”, 1st letter to Timothy 5:24.

Multiple memes, spoofs & comic reenactments attest to our tendency to “pile on”. While their sin is evident, however, it is still worthy to consider that only those without sin should think of casting the first stone. After all, what would the kisscam reveal if it were aimed at you or me when we least expected it.

For sure, the evidence shows that these two individuals are in desperate need of Jesus. But, no more than me. No more than you.
