(from Genesis 3:1-24)
Life gets tougher when you don’t do what is right
Adam and Even had it made in the garden. Every need was fulfilled and they were together with God, the source of all good things. They crossed an obvious line into disobedience against what they knew to be right and their whole lives changed.
Don’t listen to a liar, especially one who doesn’t have your best interests at heart
Jesus said that Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44) and also warns us that there are yet false prophets who are wolves in sheep’s clothing. To counter all of the lies and misinformation in the world, Jesus promised that if we stick with His word and keep it that we will know the truth and that that truth would set us free (John 8:31-32).
Just because it looks good doesn’t mean you should have it
The forbidden fruit was attractive to Eve in every way. Her desire for it caused her either to forget or to ignore God’s warning about it. As Solomon warned, “Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup; when it goes down smoothly; at the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like a viper”, Proverbs 23:31-32. There are a lot of pretty things in this world that will hurt you. Stay with what you know is right.
You can’t hide from your mistakes and you shouldn’t blame others for them
Like little children, Adam and Eve hid from God, and when found lacked the character or courage to take responsibility for what they had done. This of course, made them appear even more foolish.
God promises us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”, 1st John 1:9.
If you dance to the music you have to pay the piper
What does that mean? To put it as holy scripture has it, we will reap what we sow; corruption or life... and God promises to make sure of it (Galatians 6:7-8). Moses warned Israel thousands of years ago, “... be sure your sin will find you out” , Numbers 32:23. Eastern religions call it karma, but it is just God’s justice.
People who are aware of their sin should cover themselves
As soon as Adam and Eve knew their sin, they made themselves coverings of fig leaves. God improved their immediate situation by providing clothes made from animal skins but finally and completely provided dignity and salvation for the entire world through Christ, “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” , Galatians 3:27.
