The Devil Wants Me To Believe…

…That I should be the main focus of worship and Bible class and so what is done there should always appeal to my tastes and be fun, entertaining and enjoyable.

…That I know enough of the Bible already, so there is no need for me to waste my valuable time with further personal study at home.

…That Bible classes are for those who need them, and me and my family are good people, so we don’t.

…That since I have filled my life with so many activities, I have a right to sleep in on the ‘Lord’s Day’ and get some rest. I also need Sunday and Wednesday evenings to relax as well; and most importantly, I deserve that time.

…That if I am going to go to all the trouble to ‘go to church’, there is no need in preparing for it so that my family and I can be there on time and in a reverent frame of mind. Why, God should just be grateful that I came at all.

…That those who warn us of the unbiblical practices and liberal influences of religious groups all around us are all just self-righteous crackpots… these are just fanatical crazy men like Jeremiah, Isaiah, Elijah, etc.

…That making my kids go to school every day for several hours is not ramming education down their throats, but making them attend worship assemblies and Bible classes is ramming religion down their throats.

…That as a parent I have no right to guide my child into believing the same things about God that I have come to believe, but that I must allow them to ‘discover’ anything about God on their own and unguided.

…That concerning ‘church work’, I have no obligation whatsoever to do any more than whoever is doing the least.

…That since I have my name on some ‘church roll’ and consider myself a member, me and Jesus are tight.

…That you don’t really need to do all that stuff in the Bible. Just pick out what you like. God understands, and He will appreciate you for any minimal effort you design for yourself.

…That real men don’t need ’church’ like women and children do.

…That the leaders of the church want to get something from you rather than help you.

… That following the Lord is a dutiful, obligatory, life-draining, drudgery that sucks you dry and leaves you with nothing. That living God’s way is not nearly as fulfilling as living for yourself and following the way of the world.

Don’t worry! There is no danger. No one is so silly that they would allow the devil to make them believe anything like that!
