Is God’s Forgiveness Real (even for me)?

One of the greatest teachings in all of the Bible is often the one some folks have the most trouble believing.

I’m writing about the fact that many struggle with believing that God forgives them based solely on their faith in His Son. This is a great irony, since forgiving us is the whole reason why He sent Jesus and then provided the Bible to show us that this has been His intention throughout history; from before times eternal , Titus 1:3.

Have you read Romans 5:6, 8 & 10?

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly....... But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us....... For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

Did you catch all of that? God did not send His Son to die for us because we were good, but rather even while we were ungodly, sinners even enemies of His!

Everything He has done in history has been directed towards the specific purpose of forgiving you and making you one of His children. The question is, “Do you have the faith to accept that?”

Consider John 3:14-16:

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; that whoever believes may in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Twice this verse says that “whoever” believes in Jesus can have eternal life. God’s promises are not for some group of qualified elite. His promises are for whoever chooses to believe them.

.....And there are a bunch of these “whoever” passages throughout the gospels, teaching us that God’s plan is there not for those who are already righteous, but for all who choose Him because they understand how desperately they need Him. Incidentally, the number of those who are righteous without Jesus remains.... 0, zero, zip, zilch, naught. Get it? From the best of us to the worst of us, we all need Him just the same.

Think your sins are so bad that He won’t accept you? Get over it. Who do you think you are, anyway? Somebody special? Humble yourself before God. Choose Him. After all, In sending Jesus, He chose you.
