Today we honor our seniors who are graduating from high school as well as those from our congregation who are graduating from college. These are men and women who have completed this great task and are now entering into a new phase of their life. We all have these moments of transition in life. Sometimes our transitions of life are big but other times they are small. But re...
In my daily Bible reading I’m currently in the book of Job, which our gut reaction sometimes is to think of Job as a book on perseverance. And that is certainly an element of Job and his situation, but if we stay in that camp we completely miss a deeper understanding of the book and a deeper understanding of who God is. Job is sitting there with 3 of his “friends” (I use the word friend loos...
Just the other day on the radio I heard them discussing a survey that talked about what kinds of dishes should not be present at Thanksgiving meal. I’m sure we’ve all got our opinions on those things that must be present at Thanksgiving, maybe it’s mac n’cheese, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes with the LITTLE marshmallows. But this survey did the opposite, it asked people ...
That’s it, I’m tired of paying my electric and water bills and so I’m sending a letter to OG&E and to the City of Midwest City informing them that I’ll no longer be paying my bills. And while I’m at it, I’m going to let my bank know that I’m no longer going to pay my mortgage. Why you might ask? Because I don’t want to! Can you imagine someone being serious and saying that to you...
This week 39 students from our congregation are going to church camp and 5 adults to help as counselors and cooks. Some of the students are members and some are friends/family of our members. I'd like to encourage us all to be praying for our students by name as they are at church camp this week. Some suggested things to pray about are: they grow closer to God, they are encouraged spir...
Spring is a wonderful time of year, grass is starting to green up, flowers are starting to bloom, the trees are budding, and my nose is going crazy from the wonderful Oklahoma allergies. But despite the allergies, I still really enjoy Spring because it reminds me of renewal. The power in fresh starts, new beginnings, new life. Today on Easter Sunday, we put an extra emphasis on the res...

Why do you take on a challenge? Maybe you want to prove to others you can do it, maybe you want to prove to yourself you can do it. You might take on a challenge to for the feeling of accomplishment or to check something of a “bucket list”. But maybe you take on a challenge to help yourself grow in that endeavor or to learn a new set of skills that will benefit you in the future. This week we...
Have you ever been in our worship service and listened? Now that might sound like an odd question, but I mean much more than just listening to the sermon, prayers, and songs. I’m talking about listening to everything else that is going on around you. Here are some of the things I have listened to over the past couple weeks and I think you, like me, will find something wonderful in all the extra no...
In Exodus chapter 3, God calls Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and Moses wants to know God’s name. And God replies, “I AM who I AM” (v. 14). And this is the name of God, YAHWEH, or in our English translations, LORD. Yahweh is the sacred name of God and it conveys this idea of absolute being and never changing. So fast forward several thousand years to the time of Christ and John’s gospel...
