Guys & Girls Huddles meet the first Wednesday of the month, September-May, throughout the school year. Guys and girls meet for separate Bible studies, currently studying what it means to be a man and woman of God according to Titus 2, participate in a fun activity, and all come together for dinner before our Wednesday night service.
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; 7 in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, 8 sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. Titus 2:2-8
Goals
Love
Helping students love God with all their heart, soul, and mind and to love their neighbor as themselves. As a follower of Christ, we are called to set aside our selfish desires and to make God our only priority. Likewise, as a follower, we are to be socially aware of those who are outcasts, on the fringe, lonely, new, or in need. All should feel welcomed regardless of background and should sense a strong emphasis on following God whole-heartedly.
Intertwined
Helping students find their role in God’s kingdom in two ways.
- All students should find a belonging in the youth group. They are part of a youth group that is meant to encourage, motivate, and support one another.
- All students should be active in the life of the church. The youth group is not it’s own entity but instead is part of the church body. Students should be using their gifts to benefit and lead in the church and should find mentors within the church that will care for them and invest in their spiritual formation.
The Choctaw Youth Group’s purpose is to help teenagers grow their faith and experience the LIFE that comes through knowing Christ. Our desire is to promote unity and belonging while equipping teenagers for a life of discipleship and service in the church, community, and world. All of this is done with an emphasis on parent and church family involvement.
Faith
Helping students develop their own faith. Students must have a strong faith foundation to rely on when they become adults and to help future growth and this begins with discipleship. Teaching them to study the Word, establish a strong prayer life, and pointing them to a life of service is where discipleship begins.
Evangelism
Helping students share their faith. The great commission commands all followers of Christ, young and old, to go into all the world and make disciples. Students are encouraged to invite their friends to all youth events in order to help build relationships. The youth group will also teach students how to share their faith with their friends and those in their community.
